Per Stephen Wiseman of the News & Observer, Cutcliffe will not return for his 15th season in Durham.
“David Cutcliffe’s 14-year tenure as Duke’s football coach, which saw him raise a moribund program into a regular bowl participant before a regression over the last three seasons, is over,” Wiseman wrote.
The two sides reportedly “mutually agreed to part ways,” according to a source with direct knowledge.
Cutcliffe took over as coach in 2007 and brought Duke’s football program to respectability. From 2000-2007, the Blue Devils won just 10 games. By his fifth season, Cutcliffe had Duke in a bowl game.
From 2012-2018 the Blue Devils football team played in six bowl games. In 2015, the university captured its first bowl win since the 1961 Cotton Bowl.
David Cutcliffe is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and he always gave you some wisdom about life every time you talked to him.
Things had clearly gone very south on the field at Duke. Very curious what he decides to do next.

Cutcliffe leaves Duke with a 77-97 record and 35-79 record in ACC play.
During his tenure, Cutcliffe produced two first-round picks. Most notably, quarterback Daniel Jones who the Giants selected No. 6 overall.
Recently, Cutcliffe was adamant that he has no plans of retiring.
“I don’t know if I look worn out or look all that bad, but I got a lot of fire in me. I’m a young football coach. I love doing what I’m doing,” the 67-year-old coach said last week.
