With the 2019-20 college basketball season concluding without an NCAA Tournament, we might as well set our sights on the 2020-21 season.
This past year saw a bunch of NCAA Tournament regulars struggle mightily, while teams that were on the cusp of ending droughts finally break through. But are those teams expected to perform the same next season? Of course not.
Well ahead of the 2020-21 season, early preseason top 25 prediction polls are coming out. Those polls may not be useful until we even know where all of the top prospects and transfer portal targets go.
But for now, some of them should provide an early look at who to keep an eye on this summer. NBC Sports has released its preseason top 25.
- Michigan State
- Texas Tech
- San Diego State
Villanova’s presence at the top of the list should come as no surprise as most of their key players from this past year are expected to return. As a team coached by one of the best in college basketball and coming off a share of the Big East title, the Wildcats could easily return to their usual dominance.
NBC Sports also identified five teams that just missed the cut: Texas, Indiana, Arizona State, UConn and Stanford.
Outside of the Power Five and Big East there were only a handful of mid-majors that made the cut. WCC juggernaut Gonzaga, San Diego State, Houston and Richmond all look primed to represent their conferences.
Do you think NBC Sports got the 2020-21 preseason top 25 right?
