After a freshman year during which he recorded 18 tackles, defensive back Tim Irvin announced that he would transfer from Auburn. The nephew of NFL great Michael Irvin had been connected to Miami and Texas, but will continue his football career at East Carolina. He made the announcement via Twitter this evening.

Irvin was a four-star recruit out of high school, and chose Auburn over offers from Alabama, Florida, Miami, Texas, and others. He explained his decision to join the Pirates to 247Sports‘ Ryan Bartow:
“They just kept it real cool,” Irvin said of East Carolina. “I just like everything there. I like the environment. The coaches kept it real. It’s a place I can play right away. I can come in and work and compete with the other guys. They can help me reach my goals and get to the next level.”
He will join a program helmed by first-year head coach Scottie Montgomery, who was hired to take over for Ruffin McNeil in December after a stint as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator under David Cutcliffe at Duke.
