To no one’s surprise, NC State heads into its meeting with Clemson as a heavy underdog. While the Tigers have had their issues this season, they’ve still got an obvious edge in the talent department. Clemson is currently a 10-point favorite to beat the Wolfpack.
The Tigers have looked just a little bit different in the absence of Trevor Lawrence, struggling offensively in ways nobody is used to seeing. DJ Uiagalelei has only one touchdown pass through the first three games, and he’s averaging just 5.5 yards per attempt. He managed just 126 yards passing against Georgia Tech over the weekend.
If there’s a reason for NC State to be optimistic, it’s that thus-far-ineffective Clemson offense. Unfortunately, the Tigers’ defense has been fantastic—the next offense to score a touchdown against that defense will be the first. Georgia managed just 4.2 yards per play against Clemson, and GT averaged 4.4.
NC State’s offense has got to be in top form to do damage against this defense, which is gonna be the toughest group that Devin Leary and company face all year.
