The 2020 college football season remains several months away, but there are already a few coaches that are feeling the pressure. Earlier this month, Pete Fiutak of College Football News shared his power rankings for SEC coaches and which ones belong on the hot seat.
Fiutak believes the head coach under the most pressure in the SEC is Will Muschamp. This makes sense when you consider South Carolina’s record under Muschamp.
Muschamp owns a 26-25 record in his four seasons at South Carolina. This past season, the Gamecocks only won four games – albeit their schedule was as brutal as it gets. His best year came back in 2016, when he led the program to a 9-4 record and win over Michigan in the Outback Bowl.
South Carolina doesn’t have to go on an improbable run to the College Football Playoff, but the time is now for Muschamp to lead the Gamecocks to their first double-digit win season since 2013.
Four years, a 26-25 record, and the fan base having to deal with its Clemson neighbors all puts the hot seat pressure at another level in a conference where the hot seat pressure is always unbearable.
This year’s schedule for South Carolina won’t be easy as it’ll have to face Clemson, Florida, Georgia and LSU.
Second on the list for SEC coaches on the hot seat is Jimbo Fisher, who was thought of as a home-run hire back in 2018.
Do you agree that Muschamp is under the most pressure out of any SEC coach?
