Spencer Rattler may have a new favorite target.
Shane Beamer has done it again for the South Carolina Gamecocks, landing another high-profile prospect out of the transfer portal in James Madison receiver Antwane Wells, who announced his commitment on Instagram Monday evening.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Wells, who has three seasons of eligibility remaining, was a focal point of the Dukes’ offense. With 83 catches for 1,250 yards and 15 touchdowns, he was not only JMU’s leading receiver in 2021, but set new single-season school records in those statistical categories.
Wells, who hails from Highland Springs, Va., and did a year of prep school at Fork Union before attending JMU, chose the Gamecocks over the likes of Auburn, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and others.
With Wells now in the fold, South Carolina gets another boost to its receiving corps, which already received some good news when 2021 leading receiver Josh Vann decided to come back for another year and All-Big 12 Oklahoma tight end Austin Stogner announced his transfer to USC. Stogner’s teammate and fellow transfer companion, quarterback Spencer Rattler, will have some weapons to work with in Columbia.
