Ranking The Best Fit For VJ Edgecombe Among Bottom 5 Teams

December 27, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

VJ Edgecombe has been one of the well-known names in the draft, alongside Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, and Ace Bailey. While teams will look to Flagg, Harper, and Bailey ahead of Edgecombe, most wouldn’t be disappointed getting the athletic Baylor guard. Here is a ranking of the best fits for VJ Edgecombe among the five worst teams in the 2024-2025 NBA season.

Ranking The Best Fit For VJ Edgecombe Among Bottom 5 Teams

#1: Charlotte Hornets

Unquestionably, the Charlotte Hornets fit the best for Edgecombe. The team and Edgecombe perfectly complement one another as they can cover for each other’s weaknesses. With LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, Edgecombe can be the athletic defensive presence that the Hornets need next to their stars. For Edgecombe, he will get easy shots with Ball and Miller commanding a lot of attention from opposing defenses. Given that Edgecombe isn’t the best shot-creator or shooter, he will benefit immensely from playing with a playmaker like Ball. His athleticism can be extremely useful in transition or cutting back door for the Hornets. Given the complementary fit, the Hornets go first in this ranking.

#2: Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz land second for this ranking as they will have something to gain from his addition to their roster. Specifically, the Jazz do need perimeter defense and athleticism at the guard position. Edgecombe can provide that in spades and will benefit from playing next to a guard like Keyonte George, who is an offensive threat at the one. Furthermore, shooters like George and All-Star Lauri Markkanen can help cover Edgecombe’s inconsistent shooting. Additionally, Edgecombe can provide great rim pressure that George lacks. Given these reasons, the Jazz rank second for fit with Edgecombe.

#3: Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards go third in this ranking. While the Wizards do need a long-term offensive option, adding Edgecombe will have positive effects on the team. Primarily, the addition of Edgecombe to Bilal Coulibaly and Alexandre Sarr will create an incredible defensive core for the Wizards. The amount of athleticism and defensive ability from those three will put tremendous pressure on opposing offenses. Not only that, but they can help create many opportunities in transition with their defense. The only issue with Edgecombe going to Washington is on the offensive end. Edgecombe isn’t a consistent shooter or self-creator and Washington needs someone who can do that at a star level. Regardless, Edgecombe will fit well in Washington should they get him.

#4: New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans sit fourth in this ranking as they don’t need what Edgecombe brings. The Pelicans already have Jordan Hawkins, who can defend and knock down threes at a high level. While the talent of Edgecombe is apparent, the Pelicans have more pressing areas that they need to improve over shooting guard. Due to that, they sit towards the bottom of the ranking.

#5: Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors sit at the bottom of the ranking as they are the worst fit for Edgecombe. In particular, the Raptors already have a logjam of shooting guards on their roster. With players like Ochai Agbaji, Gradey Dick, and Ja’Kobe Walter on their roster, they have no need for Edgecombe. While the athleticism and defense are nice, the Raptors have personnel who possess those qualities and can shoot consistently. Given that reason, the Raptors fit the worst for Edgecombe.
