We have a new free agent signing to announce!
I am beyond excited to be joining Canes Country as a contributing writer. My name is Talia Goodman and I’m a 17-year-old aspiring sports journalist and broadcaster from Boston, Massachusetts.
I fell in love with the sport of hockey just over three years ago, and shortly after, I fell in love with the Canes.
Their traditions, fans, players and even their social media presence led me to root for them, which definitely got me a lot of hate here in Boston!
As I started religiously following the sport, I knew I needed to attend a Canes game in person. My parents surprised me with tickets in December of 2019, where I sported my red Andrei Svechnikov jersey amidst a sea of yellow in TD Garden.
I stood by the glass during warmups, in awe of how close I was to my favorite players.
I was hooked on the atmosphere of a packed arena, no matter the sport. I felt at home.
I started researching and researching players and stats from every sport, from hockey to basketball to college football. I wanted to know everything about everything.
What I loved most about sports was the people involved. I loved to learn everyone’s stories.
I started up my own sports media Instagram page, @goodsportsmedia, where I interviewed professional athletes, coaches and media personnel. I wanted to learn their stories and share them with others.
This was when I knew I was meant to be in sports media.
After that, I took every opportunity I could possibly get. I became editor-in-chief of my school’s newspaper, attended sports broadcasting classes through colleges and began an internship with Hockey Night in New England.
While I love sports in general so very much, my heart is always with the Canes. I’ll pass on a night out with friends to watch the Canes on TV at home. I save up my money in hopes of attending another Canes game, and I spend hours upon hours on Twitter, keeping up with every inch of news. I even freelanced a feature with the News & Observer about Rod Brind’Amour’s son, Skyler.
Writing about the Canes is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to get started.
Just in case you’re interested, I’ll link some of my previous work here to read!
