Despite any blather you may have heard over the years from talking heads outside NFL locker rooms, former Carolina Panthers quarterback and (now) former New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is well liked by his fellow players, teammates and opponents alike.
And how do we know? Well, just listen to them.
Two current Panthers are just the latest to show respect for the league’s former Most Valuable Player. Following Tuesday’s practice, cornerback Donte Jackson and quarterback P.J. Walker offered their support for Newton, who was shockingly released by New England just hours prior.
“Its definitely unfortunate. But just knowing a guy like Cam, he wouldn’t want you to feel sorry for him,” said Jackson, who spent two seasons alongside Newton in Carolina. “He’s just gonna get back to work. Just sending out nothing but the best to him, the best of luck to him. But I know he’s a guy that he wouldn’t want us to feel sorry for (him). He’ll just keep it pushing because I know that’s what he gonna do. Big ups to Cam.”
Jackson is right. Cam doesn’t want anyone’s pity. He said so himself after the news came down . . .

The third-year corner was also asked if he believed Newton would land with another team, to which he replied, “Most definitely. Most definitely.”
Walker followed up Jackson’s sentiments.
“It’s crazy. It’s crazy,” Walker said. “Being a fan of his for years, since high school, it’s tough, man. It’s a crazy world that we’re in right now in this business. But some things don’t go your way sometimes. I feel as though he’ll get an opportunity somewhere, where it best fits him.”
Newton is now a free agent and can sign on with any team that may give him that opportunity.
