He fills John Miller’s spot while the guard is on the reserve/COVID-19 list
Following the placement of starting right guard John Miller on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Carolina Panthers have promoted center Sam Tecklenburg to the active roster.

Tecklenburg will provide interior line depth for the offense, but will not replace Miller at guard. Dennis Daley will start at right guard against the New York Jets.
This elevation to the active roster is a risk for the Panthers, who would have to submit Tecklenburg to the waiver process before cycling him back to their practice squad. Tecklenburg is a center out of Matt Rhule’s Baylor teams. He almost retired after college, but was talked into joining the Panthers as an undrafted free agent last year by Rhule. He put together an impressive 2021 preseason and could be a coveted waiver wire pick up by other offensive line-needy teams.
The Panthers have filled out their practice squad by signing former Western Carolina cornerback John Brannon.
