Clemson Appears To Have Made Decision At Quarterback

A favorite has emerged for Clemson’s starting quarterback heading into the 2022 season.

D.J. Uiagalelei and five-star true freshman Cade Klubnik have been battling it out, but it looks like Uiagalelei is going to prevail.

Ann Hickey of 247Sports is reporting that the job is Uiagalelei’s to lose.

“There’s not really a competition if you ask Dabo,” Hickey said on the Cover 3 Podcast. “After the spring game, he was asked about it. His wording was, ‘D.J. did nothing this spring to lose his job,’ which is not exactly like, ‘D.J. did everything to keep his job.’ It was kind of skirting around the question a little bit. With D.J., he looks better, he’s more mobile, and he’s down to 240 pounds. He said he played his heaviest last year at 260 and wants to play this season at 230-235.”

Uiagalelei struggled in 2021 after finishing with only nine touchdown passes and 10 interceptions off 2,246 passing yards. He’s going to have to improve if the Tigers want to get back to being a National Title contender.

Clemson finished 10-3 in 2021 and didn’t win the ACC Championship for the first time since 2014.

The Tigers will open their season against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sept. 5.
