The Milwaukee Bucks suffered a shocking 45-point loss to the Brooklyn Nets to continue their terrible season. Giannis Antetokounmpo missing time with an injury sees the Bucks further falling away from the top six playoff seeds and making them an outsider for the tenth play-in seed. Rumors are running rampant about Antetokounmpo wanting a trade after offseason reports and recent changes make it a bigger story.
Unfortunately, the trade talk has become the biggest story of the season due to a two-time MVP potentially being on the block. NBA insider Chris Haynes shared his account about Antetokounmpo growing uncomfortable with this situation:
“From the conversation I had with him a week ago, he said he’s not comfortable with all the rumors. He claims it’s not coming from him – most of these conversations are coming from his representatives.”
Antetokounmpo has been intentionally silent about his future whenever asked about it over the past year. Damian Lillard’s injury and the Bucks waiving him started the topic as Milwaukee’s title hopes dwindled. The rumors and reports about Antetokounmpo’s thoughts on his future have made him grow uncomfortable.
Is Giannis Antetokounmpo To Blame?
Retired NBA player turned media pundit Kendrick Perkins recently used the strong terminology of a “coward” to describe Antetokounmpo’s handling of his Milwaukee time likely ending soon. Perkins feels that Giannis is trying to play both sides instead of just being honest that he wants to be traded to a better team to improve his title changes.
Antetokounmpo is arguably already the greatest player in Bucks franchise history after winning two MVPs and bringing them an NBA Championship. Multiple reporters have claimed that Giannis requested a trade to the New York Knicks during the offseason, but he let the franchise talk him into giving this season a chance due to his strong attachment to Milwaukee.
It shows some loyalty that Antetokounmpo was willing to give the difficult situation one more chance, but the early season so far has given him virtually no chance of contending. Giannis will have to bite the bullet and formally request out knowing he’ll have to answer countless questions from the media.
Where Will Giannis Antetokounmpo Finish Season?
Both the report of Antetokounmpo being uncomfortable with the rumors and Milwaukee not wanting to trade him on their own could complicate the future. The Bucks are currently rumored to be looking at buying at the trade deadline to improve the roster.
Milwaukee’s front office knows how difficult it is to get a star near Giannis’ level and has tried to make moves to appease him every time the franchise struggles. Lillard, Jrue Holiday, and Myles Turner all joined the roster thanks to the Bucks looking to appease Antetokounmpo.
However, the situation is dire now with minimal trade assets to realistically add a big difference maker. No one can figure out Giannis’ future, except for him, since he still has to make the trade demand. Milwaukee has no interest in trading the superstar unless he forces their hand and makes it known that he is seeking out.
