Vikings Linked to Familiar Face to Fix QB Issues

November 26, 2025 by Heavy

The Minnesota Vikings are in a weird spot at the quarterback position. To be fair, this is nothing new.

Minnesota is still all-in on J.J. McCarthy being the franchise guy, but that could change. McCarthy’s play through his first six career games has been underwhelming. If he returns to the starting lineup after he clears concussion protocol, he will have to provide flashes to continue that confidence.

If he comes back and his play is the same old story, then the Vikings could be forced to make a move in the off-season. It’s not the heaviest class at signal caller, so the Vikings could look to free agency to resolve their issues.

All roads could lead back to a familiar face that was on the roster just last year.

Vikings Linked to QB Daniel Jones

Colts QB Daniel Jones

GettyIndianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones has officially been linked back to Minnesota in a potentially stunning return.

ESPN‘s Jeremy Fowler made the connection, and it does make sense from the Vikings end.

Daniel Jones spent the second half of the 2024 NFL season being a fly on the wall for Kevin O’Connell and Sam Darnold. The Vikings reportedly attempted to re-sign him in the offseason to keep him around.

Jones declined this offer, instead opting to go to Indianapolis to challenge Anthony Richardson for the starting gig. It was the right decision, as Jones won the position battle and the Colts are looking like a real playoff contender.

Fowler elaborated on the idea:

“The funny thing about that scenario is Jones would be an ideal fit in Minnesota, where he backed up Sam Darnold last season. But as the top free agent quarterback, he will score a sizable deal in Indianapolis or elsewhere…

…still, the Vikings really liked Jones, and their situation this offseason will be far different than the one from a year ago. Making a play for Jones would give him multiple options to consider.”

The Colts are likely to retain Jones, unless there’s a massive end-of-season collapse between himself and the Colts.

J.J. McCarthy Must Protect His Job

JJ McCarthy

GettyJJ McCarthy must clear concussion protocol and earn his starting job for 2026.

J.J. McCarthy’s job is already in a little bit of danger this Sunday in Seattle. If Max Brosmer comes out and plays and is undeniably good, then the Vikings may have no choice but to hand him McCarthy’s gig for the rest of 2025.

If McCarthy gets another shot at starting this season (he most likely will), he must live up to the moment. The starting job in 2026 is his to lose, and just about all he’s done so far in 2025 is lose it. Not only because of his poor play, but his durability concerns have to have the Vikings’ attention.

The Wilf ownership group wants to win, and it’s not proven yet that the Vikings can do that with J.J. McCarthy leading the charge. There’s a Colts team in the AFC with Daniel Jones winning, as well as a Seahawks team in the AFC winning.

All the pressure in the world is on J.J. McCarthy to make sure the Vikings don’t regret their decision to chug along full steam ahead with him as the face of the franchise.
