Vikings May Catch a Big Break Against the Packers

November 21, 2025 by Heavy

The Minnesota Vikings may catch a big break against their border-rival Green Bay Packers.

The 4-6 Vikings roll into Lambeau Field on Sunday to take on the 6-3-1 Packers. Green Bay has only played one NFC North opponent so far this season. It was in Week1 in a victory at home over the Detroit Lions.

The Vikings are 2-1 in-division, with a win over the Lions and season series split with the Chicago Bears.

The Vikings at 4-6 and dwindling playoff chances need all the help they can get going forward. As it turns out, they may be getting a little this Sunday at Lambeau Field.

Packers RB Josh Jacobs Listed as “Questionable” for Sunday

GettyJosh Jacobs #8 of the Green Bay Packers is listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Consider this RotoWire report:

“Jacobs (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Vikings.

Jacobs missed the second half of last week’s win over the Giants, but testing Monday revealed nothing more than a contusion, which allowed for a return to limited practice participation Thursday and Friday. Emanuel Wilson will take over as the lead runner if Jacobs ends up inactive ahead of a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff this Sunday.”

RotoWire also makes a good point regarding the timing of the game and Jacobs’ injury. The Packers have a Thanksgiving date with the Lions this coming Thursday. This is notable because Green Bay could feel incentivized to sit the runningback this week to make sure he is 100% for the Lions game.

This would be good news for the Vikings, as their rushing defense has come alive in recent weeks. The return a couple weeks ago of Andrew Van Ginkel and Blake Cashman makes it look like a whole new unit.

Vikings May Luck Out of Facing Josh Jacobs

The Vikings will surely be ok with not having to worry about facing Josh Jacobs. Though, interestingly enough, Jacobs has always struggled against Minnesota.

Josh Jacobs has played against the Vikings 4 times in his impressive career so far (2 with the Raiders, 2 with the Packers). In those games, he has totaled only 49 carries for 198 yards and 1 touchdown, per Statmuse.

This means that Jacobs only averages 12.3 attempts for 49.5 yards and .25 touchdowns per game against the purple team.

Jacobs is still putting together a solid season to this point. He has 885 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns, although only 3.8 yards per rush, also per Statmuse.

With his status up in the air, the Vikings have reason to be confident even if he does have availability to play. Minnesota boasts the 12th-highest run defense by PFF grade in the NFL. The Packers rushing offense ranks only 27th by PFF grade, with Jacobs leading the charge.

Either way, Minnesota would likely rather not play against Josh Jacobs. No matter the metrics, Jacobs is still a major threat for any offense he’s on. With him out, the Vikings can key in on a lesser-experienced Emanuel Wilson and unsettle Jordan Love like they always do.
