DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Duke baseball steamrolled through the 2025 Athens Regional, going unbeaten in the event hosted by the No. 7 team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs. The Blue Devils’ prize? Getting to host in the super regional round for the first time ever.
Duke is set to face off against the Murray State Racers in the 2025 Durham Super Regional. The winner of this weekend’s series will earn a trip to Omaha and a coveted spot in the College World Series.
The Blue Devils (40-19) were a perfect 3-0 in Athens, where they’ve seen much postseason success in recent years. They defeated Oklahoma State twice and No. 7 Georgia once en route to the program’s fourth trip to super regionals, all of which have come in the last seven seasons under head coach Chris Pollard.
The Racers (42-14) won the Oxford Regional to advance to the next round. The Missouri Valley Conference Tournament champions edged out No. 10 Ole Miss, the regional’s host, by a score of 12-11 in a winner-take-all game Monday to clinch their first-ever trip to super regionals. Murray State played the Rebels a total of three times last weekend, taking two of them and knocking one of the nation’s top teams out of the competition.
The Blue Devils and Racers will now battle in a best-of-three series at Jack Coombs Field starting Saturday. Here’s the weekend’s schedule, with each game’s designated home team in bold.
