AFC Contender Looking to Poach Bears OC Declan Doyle

January 27, 2026 by Heavy

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle has pulled his name out of consideration for the same role with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he now has another suitor out of the AFC.

Doyle withdrew from Philadelphia’s candidate pool on Monday, January 26. However, later in the day, the Baltimore Ravens dropped a request to speak with Doyle about their open offensive coordinator position.

“The #Ravens have put in a slip to talk to #Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle,” Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported via X on Monday.

Declan Doyle would get play-calling duties under Jesse Minter in Baltimore. That’s a good roster with an MVP QB in Lamar Jackson

If he gets the job and accepts, it would be a huge opportunity and a big blow for the #Bears. We’ll see how it all plays out https://t.co/DNLhqyQ9gB

“Declan Doyle would get play-calling duties under Jesse Minter in Baltimore. That’s a good roster with an MVP QB in Lamar Jackson,” Jacob Infante of Windy City Gridiron added in a repost of Biggs’ report. “If he gets the job and accepts, it would be a huge opportunity and a big blow for the #Bears. We’ll see how it all plays out.”

Declan Doyle Had Promising Interview With Eagles Before Withdrawing Name From Consideration

Work as the play caller for Philadelphia’s offense was also on the table for Doyle had he landed the job. Thus, it is unclear if the same opportunity in Baltimore will be enough to sell Doyle on the position if he accepts the interview request.

The Eagles recently conducted an interview with Doyle, which Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported went exceptionally well.

“Was told Declan Doyle’s interview with Philly was highly impressive,” Fowler posted to social media Monday. “He’s on track for [head coach] interviews next cycle, so staying put makes sense in that regard. Wouldn’t surprise if Eagles prioritize play-calling experience at this stage. [Dianna Russini of The Athletic was] 1st on Doyle staying in CHI.”

Bears head coach Ben Johnson cleared Doyle’s interview with Philadelphia and will presumably do the same if he wants to speak with the Ravens about that opportunity.

Ben Johnson Likely to Continue Calling Plays for Bears’ Offense

Doyle does not call the plays in Chicago, as Johnson assumed those duties when he took the head coaching job in 2025. Johnson spent three years building and calling among the NFL’s best offenses with the Detroit Lions as their offensive coordinator between 2022-24.

Doyle has only been an OC in the league for one season, though his resumé is impressive following two stints under highly-regarded head coach Sean Payton. Doyle was an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints from 2019-22. He then took a job as the tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos, serving in that role in 2023 and 2024.

When Johnson hired Doyle as the Bears’ offensive coordinator last spring, Doyle became the youngest person in the league to hold that job at 28 years old. As such, his age could be a factor that works against Doyle in next year’s head coaching cycle.

However, Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski is just 30 years old and has interviewed with both the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills for their head coaching vacancies in recent days.
