Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl star Brandon Aubrey is the rare kicker who could create a bidding war in NFL free agency. As NFL rumors swirl, Heavy Sports had a chance to speak with Aubrey about his uncertain future during an exclusive interview amid Super Bowl week.
Despite all the rumors about his future, Aubrey is speaking like someone who plans to be back in Big D in 2026 and beyond.
“We’ve got to make some improvement,” Aubrey told Heavy Sports ahead of the Super Bowl. “Find a way to win more football games, so we’re in the playoffs and hopefully next year we’re in the game (Super Bowl) that we’re about to go watch.
“I think Schotty (head coach Brian Schottenheimer) has brought a big culture change. I think he’s more fun-loving and bringing the love of the game back to players, because once you get to the professional ranks, it’s hard. You see it’s a business. It’s hard to keep having fun playing the game.”
As for his future with the Cowboys, Aubrey would “love to be in Dallas.” Time will tell if the Cowboys show this same desire with a sizable contract offer.
“Yeah, (I’m a) restricted free agent. Haven’t really started the conversations yet,” Aubrey added. “Love to be in Dallas.”
Cowboys Rumors: Brandon Aubrey Is Seeking a $10 Million Annual Salary as Dallas Pushes Back
Since Heavy’s exclusive interview, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Aubrey and the Cowboys appear to be at odds over his next contract. Aubrey is a restricted free agent, meaning Dallas has the right to match any offer the star kicker receives. The Pro Bowler is seeking $10 million annually, per Archer.
“The Dallas Cowboys and the agent for Pro Bowler Brandon Aubrey are in agreement that he should be the highest-paid kicker in the NFL,” Archer wrote in a February 24, 2026, story titled, “Brandon Aubrey seeking larger deal from Cowboys, sources say.” “The disagreement is by how much.
“The Cowboys have offered a deal for Aubrey that is more than the league-high $6.4 million average per season for Kansas City’s Harrison Butker, sources told ESPN. However, Aubrey’s agent, Todd France, has asked for a deal closer to $10 million per season, according to sources.”
Heading Into NFL Free Agency, Cowboys Pro Bowler Brandon Aubrey’s Market Value Is a 4-Year, $26 Million Contract
The Cowboys have a bit of leverage as the front office can simply wait for another team to make an offer and match it. Spotrac projects that Aubrey’s market value is a four-year, $26.1 million contract, slightly less than the 3-Time Pro Bowler is seeking.
Aubrey’s longest field goal during an NFL regular-season game is 65 yards. The kicker thinks that he can extend this to 73 yards in the future.
“Yeah, I think it’s not out of the realm of possibility to go to 72, 73 (yards),” Aubrey remarked. “I think that’s probably about the max for me. I wouldn’t say that’s the max for anyone in the league.
“Guys are getting better and better. Really strong legs and you see guys finding new techniques and just little modifications every year. So, I think somebody’s gonna push the 70-yard mark pretty soon.”
