Broncos’ Free Agency Struggles Continue After Missing Out on $70M WR

March 10, 2026 by Heavy

The Denver Broncos entered NFL free agency hoping to add another playmaker to help quarterback Bo Nix. Instead, another potential target has come off the board.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs is signing with the New England Patriots. Rapoport reported the deal is worth four years and roughly $70 million. This gives New England a major offensive addition for young quarterback Drake Maye.

It’s a 4-year deal worth roughly $70M, sources say. A huge payday. https://t.co/y6COrKi9Db

The move represents yet another offensive player Denver had been connected to during the early stages of free agency who ultimately landed elsewhere.

Broncos Still Searching for Offensive Playmakers

The Broncos entered free agency hoping to surround quarterback Bo Nix with more explosive offensive weapons.

So far, however, the first two days of free agency have delivered the opposite result.

Multiple offensive playmakers linked to Denver have quickly come off the board. Running back Kenneth Walker III signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, while Travis Etienne landed a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. Former Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier also found a new home with the Arizona Cardinals.

The tight end market delivered similar results for Denver. Cade Otton agreed to a deal with Tampa Bay, while Isaiah Likely signed with the Giants.

Now, you can add Doubs to that list.

Every one of those players was connected to the Broncos at one point this offseason.

Despite entering free agency with clear needs on offense, the Broncos have yet to land a major playmaker.

That growing list of missed opportunities has only intensified concerns about how Denver plans to upgrade its offense heading into the 2026 season.

Broncos Lose Top Target to Patriots

The latest setback came as wide receiver Romeo Doubs agreed to a four-year deal worth roughly $70 million with the New England Patriots.

Doubs had emerged as a possible option for Denver as the team explored ways to add more talent to its receiving corps. Instead, the Patriots moved aggressively and secured one of the more intriguing wide receivers still available on the market.

The outcome only adds to the frustration from Denver’s perspective.

New England was the same team that eliminated the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game last season. Now, the Patriots have once again gotten the better of Denver, this time in the free agent market.

For a Broncos team still looking to build around its young quarterback, the pressure to find offensive upgrades continues to grow as more potential targets disappear off the market.
