Davante Adams Has Strong Reaction After Rams Lose NFC Championship Game

January 26, 2026 by Heavy

The Los Angeles Rams were chasing something “mythical,” and they fell short, leaving veterans like wide receiver Davante Adams to sort through the aftermath.

Adams just wrapped up his first season with the Rams, and it was a historic one.

However, the culmination was not what Adams or anyone in the Rams’ locker room set out for when the season began, and it was evident that the six-time Pro Bowl playmaker was distraught over the outcome.

Davante Adams Has Telling Reaction After Rams’ Loss

Adams is now 0-5 in Championship games. He signed a two-year, $44 million contract with the Rams during the 2025 offseason. Adams immediately elevated LA’s profile as a Super Bowl contender. He finished the Rams’ loss with 89 yards and 1 touchdown on four receptions.

“Heartbreak,” Adams told reporters in the locker room when asked to sum up his feelings following the loss. “It’s tough. It’s tough to talk, honestly.

“I’m proud of the way the guys fought today.”

That latter answer was to a question about how Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford played, underscoring Adams’ mental state. He admitted that it was “tough to focus” on how special a season the Rams had. The loss was too fresh.

“It’s a tough moment that we’re in right now,” Adams said. “Obviously, I love this team, love what this team is about, and the fight that we had all year, and it just sucks to come up short.”

Pressed to reflect on his decision to sign with the Rams, Adams lauded the experience.

“It meant everything. This is–it was exactly what I wanted, what I hoped for as far as what you wanted in a team. Obviously, what I’ve been through the past few years, it was something that was–it’s a long time coming to get back in the situation where you’re playing meaningful games in the month of January and, potentially, February,” Adams said.

“I don’t regret, obviously, any decision that was made to come here. I had a ball this year, and loved it. It’s one of my favorite teams I’ve ever been a part of, no doubt.”

Adams spoke about uplifting teammate and Rams returner Xavier Smith following the latter’s fumble. Adams noted that Smith made plays for the team before and that they supported him after the miscue.

“It’s never going to be on one guy. It don’t matter if it comes down to a kick. It’s a multitude of things that happen over the course of a football game,” Adams said.

“You can’t point blame at somebody for a singular play.”

Davante Adams Gets Honest About Matthew Stafford

In addition to Adams, who turned 33 in December, the Rams must also concern themselves with Stafford’s future. His 38th birthday is in February. Rams head coach Sean McVay wants Stafford back, but the QB was non-committal.

What happens with Stafford could very well impact Adams’ decision on next season.

“It’s been a dream. It’s one of the best quarterbacks ever played this game and one of the coolest teammates that I’ve ever had,” Adams, who has played with Aaron Rodgers, said.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever played with somebody who’s a baller and just such an easy guy to function with. Sit by him on the plane. So, we get to chat there. Sit next to him in the offensive meeting, pretty close there, too. So, just being able to spend time with him this year, get to know him a little bit more than just across the NFC North. I value that a lot.”

After the season they had together, with Adams leading the NFL in TD receptions and Stafford in TD passes and yards, running it back could be appealing to both veterans once the emotions of Sunday’s loss wear off.

Davante Adams Has Historic Day in Rams’ Loss

The loss is disappointing for Adams and the Rams, particularly to their division rival. Still, Adams climbed the all-time NFL leaderboards in the contest.

“Davante Adams tied Andre Reed, Steve Smith Sr., Lynn Swann and Reggie Wayne (9) for the 10th-most touchdown receptions in NFL postseason history and second-most among active players (Travis Kelce),” Los Angeles Rams PR posted on X on January 25.

However, it is a modest and likely unfulfilling consolation prize for Adams and the Rams.
