The Seattle Seahawks punched their ticket to the Super Bowl by edging the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 in the NFC title game on Jan. 25 at Lumen Field. Additionally, it was a contest in which QB Sam Darnold shut down all his critics.
Darnold went 25-for-36 on his pass attempts for 346 passing yards and three touchdowns. One of those critics who admitted they were wrong about the Seahawks star was former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
On Jan. 25, Bryant took to X and shared his thoughts on Darnold after the signal-caller helped Seattle reach the Super Bowl, where they’ll be facing the New England Patriots.
“Congratulations to Sam Darnold, because I didn’t believe!” Bryant wrote. “You shut me the f— up! I’m looking forward to watching you play in the Super Bowl!”
Despite his critics and the need to overcome his situation, in which many labeled Darnold a bust for his time with the New York Jets, the Seahawks quarterback opted to focus on his teammates rather than put the spotlight on himself.
“It’s amazing to be able to do it with these guys in this locker room, with this coaching staff,” Darnold told FOX Sports postgame. “That’s why it means the world to me… I haven’t really thought about [his journey to the Super Bowl] much, to be honest, but I take it one day at a time.
“That’s it, one day at a time, every single day. Like I said, to be able to do it, it’s a special group, and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else.”
Richard Sherman Talks Sam Darnold
Meanwhile, former Seahawks star Richard Sherman focused on Darnold’s performance for silencing his naysayers who didn’t believe he would reach the Super Bowl.
“Sam Darnold could not have played a better game,” Sherman said in a Jan. 26 video from “The Richard Sherman Podcast.” “You talk about beating the allegations. Sam Darnold can’t play against the Rams; Sam Darnold can’t play in the playoffs.
“Sam Darnold can’t play in the clutch [and] Sam Darnold is on his way to the Super Bowl. [Darnold went] 25 [of] 36, 346 yards, three touchdowns. Guess how many interceptions? Zero. Zilch.”
JSN Did Everything to Ensure the Seahawks Defeated the Rams
Along with Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba was one of the standout performers in the win over their NFC West rival. Smith-Njigba recorded 10 receptions for 153 receiving yards and one touchdown.
In the tightly contested matchup against the Rams, the Seahawks had their best players step up. After the win, the Seattle standout spoke with FOX Sports and shared his thoughts on his performance as the Seahawks are now one win away from winning a Super Bowl.
“I told my team, ‘I’m going to do whatever it takes. Whatever you all ask for me, I’m going to get it done. Whatever that might be,’” Smith-Njigba said postgame. “And that’s what you saw today. You just saw grit, determination. You saw passion out there, and you saw a group, a collective, going out there and getting the job done.”
