Patrick Ngongba, the 6-foot-10 center from Paul VI (VA) and Team Takeover, has been sidelined indefinitely after having successful foot surgery in November, PVI coach Glenn Farello told ZAGSBLOG.
“Pat is recovering from foot surgery and is out indefinitely,” Farello said.
There is no timetable on his return.
“We don’t know yet, it’s too early to tell,” Farello said.
Without Ngonba, PVI beat Millenium (AZ), 80-61, on Monday at the prestigious City of Palms Classic. Rhode Island commit Ben Hammond had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and Duke pledge Darren Harris went for 17 points.
PVI next plays in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Ngonba committed to Duke in November, becoming the fourth PVI player to join the blue blood program, following Trevor Keels, Jeremy Roach and Harris.
He is part of the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class that includes Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 prospect in the class, five-star guard Kon Kneuppel, five-star small forward Isaiah Evans, and Harris.
Duke remains involved for five-star guard V.J. Edgecombe of Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.), who is also competing at City of Palms.
