DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Duke’s next baseball coach won’t have to travel far to start his new position.
Corey Muscara comes to Durham from Wake Forest, where he spent the last four seasons developing elite pitchers for a Demon Deacons team that made the College World Series just two years ago. In all, Muscara has been a college coach for 15 years, including stops at Maryland and St. John’s.
The 2023 D1Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year takes over a Duke program at a key junction in program history. Jack Coombs Field hosted a postseason game for the first time in stadium history in 2025, and the Blue Devils fell just one win short of their first College World Series appearance since 1962.
Duke’s hope is that Muscara can duplicate his success with pitchers at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons finished in the top ten in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings in each of the last three seasons.
Chris Pollard left Duke for Virginia last Tuesday after 13 seasons leading the program. He announced his departure the day after the Blue Devils lost the deciding game of their Super Regional against Murray State.
