ATHENS, Ga. — Duke baseball begins its road to Omaha Friday night in Georgia.
The Blue Devils (37-19) and Oklahoma State Cowboys (28-23) face off Friday night in the second game of the 2025 Athens Regional. First pitch at Foley Field was originally scheduled for 6 p.m., but bad weather earlier in the day delayed the regional’s first game, leading to the second contest being pushed back. Owen Proksch is set to start on the mound for Duke, while Mario Pesca is set to pitch first for Oklahoma State.
Last week, Duke won its first game in the 2025 Atlantic Coast Tournament, beating Pitt 4-3 to move on. They then lost to Florida State 14-7 in the quarterfinal round. The Cowboys of the Big 12 also won their first game in their conference tournament, narrowly defeating Baylor 4-3. Then then lost by one run to Kansas, getting knocked out by a score of 7-6.
The two programs will be meeting for just the third time. They last faced off in Durham in 2003, and their previous matchup before then was in the 1961 College World Series in Omaha.
The winner of Friday night’s game moves on to play host Georgia, who won the first game of the day, Saturday night. The losers of both games will face off Saturday afternoon in the double-elimination event.
