ATHENS, Ga. — Duke baseball had a dominating win to open their 2025 Athens Regional, and now they’ll have to face host and No. 7 team in the nation Georgia.
The Blue Devils (38-19) and Bulldogs (43-15) are set to battle Saturday night at Foley Field in the winners bracket of the double elimination event. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Kyle Johnson is starting on the mound for Duke, while Brian Curley is Georgia’s starting pitcher.
The Blue Devils, the No. 2 seed in the regional, topped the Oklahoma State Cowboys Friday night by a score of 12-5 to earn a matchup with Georgia. Duke and Oklahoma State combined to hit seven home runs, with Ben Miller, Tyler Albright and Jake Berger and hitting it out of the park in the third inning for the Blue Devils.
The Bulldogs, also a power-hitting team, routed Binghamton 20-4 earlier in the day to open the event. Georgia got two home runs each from Tre Phelps and Daniel Jackson as well as one from Nolan McCarthy during the offensive onslaught.
The loser of Saturday night’s game will face off against Oklahoma State — who beat Binghamton earlier in the day to extend their season — Sunday at noon in an elimination game. The winner of that game will then play again Sunday night against the winner of Saturday night’s game.
