ATHENS, Ga. (WNCN) — With host team Georgia eliminated from competition, Duke baseball now has a chance to win the 2025 Athens Regional and advance to the Super Regionals.
Standing in the way of the Blue Devils (39-19) are the Oklahoma State Cowboys (30-24), who defeated Georgia earlier Sunday to advance to the night game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Foley Field. Henry Zatkowski is starting for Duke, while Noah Wech will take the mound first for Oklahoma State.
The two teams faced off on Friday night, with Duke defeating Oklahoma State 12-5. Combined, the squads hit seven home runs in the game. Duke then moved on to face the host Bulldogs, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, on Saturday night. For the second game in a row, the Blue Devils hit three homers on their way to victory, handing Georgia a 6-3 loss.
After their loss to Duke, the Cowboys defeated Binghamton Saturday afternoon to earn a date with the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon. They then completed a comeback Sunday to knock out Georgia 11-9.
If Oklahoma State defeats Duke Sunday night, the two will face off again Monday afternoon. If the Blue Devils take it, they win the 2025 Athens Regional title.
