Kyle Singler Expresses Feelings of Neglect and Fear in Recent Videos

July 25, 2025 by The Spun

NBA Legend Dikembe Mutombo Has Passed Away (1:01)

The basketball community is keeping former Duke star Kyle Singler in their thoughts this week. Over the past 24 hours, the former ACC Rookie of the Year posted a pair of concerning videos on Instagram.

On early Tuesday morning, Singler posted a video of him shirtless talking about how he feels “abused” and “neglected” by his community. Although he didn’t mention any names, he did say that he believes he’s being silenced.

“I need to make an announcement because I feel like my voice is getting silenced. Every day, shit is being thrown my way,” Singler said. “I’ve been mistreated and abused, neglected, made into a mental example. I fear for my life every day. People in my community make me look out like I’m someone who’s going to be a problem and make things difficult for people when I’m only trying to be helpful.

Roughly 12 hours later, Singler released a second video on Instagram.

“Like I was saying, I’ve been in this house for five years,” Singler said. “I’ve tried to bring my family and friends into play to help me start a new career and begin a new life. Everyone has played me into a fool, creating chaos, creating narratives to again have it be profitable for people. My life has not changed at all. I’m being held hostage in a certain situation and position.”

NBA players have responded to Singler’s videos in hopes of helping him get through this difficult time.

“I love you Kyle. Hit me whenever. Please,” Kevin Love wrote.

“We love you bro,” Isaiah Thomas commented.

“You aren’t alone brother,” Andre Drummond replied. “I’m here for you.”

Singler, 36, has been out of the NBA since 2018. He spent time on the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder before taking his talents overseas. The former second-round pick averaged 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. He’s best known for his shooting from beyond the arc, and rightfully so. The Duke product made 36.2 percent of his 3-pointers during his pro career.

Prior to going to the NBA, Singler made a name for himself at Duke. Not only did he win a national championship in 2010, he was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.

We’ll provide more updates on Singler’s situation when they’re available. For now, we’re hoping that he gets through this rough patch.
