DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — After a walk-off win Wednesday night to advance out of the second round, Duke baseball continues its quest to repeat as Atlantic Coast Conference tournament champions on Friday in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 event.
The seventh-seeded Blue Devils (37-18) square off against No. 2 seed Florida State (37-13) in the first of two quarterfinal games Friday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
On Wednesday night against No. 15 seed Pitt, Duke was down two runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning. A solo home run from Macon Winslow in the first at-bat tied it at 3-3. A couple of hitters later, with two Blue Devils on, the Panthers intentionally walked a batter to load the bases. Then Jake Hyde managed to get four balls, allowing the game-winning run to walk in for Duke and keep their ACC Tournament going.
Florida State, on the other hand, has yet to play a game yet this tournament, earning a double-bye due to placing second in the league. In the Seminoles last regular season series, they lost two of three games at home to North Carolina.
The winner of Friday afternoon’s game moves on to the semifinal round Saturday.
