NEW ORLEANS, N.C. (WNCN) — It hasn’t taken long for current Duke quarterback Darian Mensah, who transferred to Durham this past offseason, to face his previous team.
The Blue Devils (1-1) are on the road Saturday night to face the Tulane Green Wave (2-0). Kickoff at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Mensah, a sophomore, played his freshman season at Tulane, where he threw 22 touchdowns and 2,723 last year. So far this season, the quarterback has thrown five touchdown passes and 723 yards for Duke across two games. That includes two touchdowns and 334 yards against No. 11 Illinois last week, a home game which the Blue Devils lost 45-19.
Tulane is coming into Saturday’s matching unbeaten so far on the season. The Green Wave edged South Alabama last weekend, 33-31. Running back Zuberi Mobley rushed into the endzone twice for Tulane, finishing with 82 yards on 11 carries. Starting quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw for 125 yards and a touchdown and also ran in for a score of his own in the victory.
Duke is back home next weekend for a Triangle rivalry game. NC State will make the short drive from Raleigh to Durham as the Wolfpack and Blue Devils are set to face off next Saturday afternoon.
