With Kyle McCord entering the transfer portal, the Ohio State Buckeyes need a starting quarterback for the 2024 season. But there’s one option on the table that Ohio State fans would rather not have to see.
There was a recent report that Duke quarterback Riley Leonard would be visiting Ohio State as well as Auburn following the departure of head coach Mike Elko to become head coach of Texas A&M. Leonard played seven games this season and completed 57.6-percent of his passes for 1,102 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions.
However, Leonard was rock solid in 2022, throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns while going 9-4 and leading the Blue Devils to their highest win total since 2014.
Nevertheless, Buckeyes fans don’t want Leonard to take the reins of their offense in large part because they don’t see him as an upgrade over McCord:
Meh, would he really be that big of an upgrade over McCord? Not in my opinion.

I don’t how this is an upgrade at the QB position. Options feel like get Cam Ward or develop who is on the roster.

A Duke QB is the answer for OSU football? Tough times.

Considering the talent in the portal this would be a huge L. Get Cam or Dante! https://t.co/f48JHsHPJO

The player that seems to be priority No. 1 for the Buckeyes is Washington State quarterback Cameron “Cam” Ward, who similarly plans to transfer for the 2024 season.
Ohio State has benefitted from the transfer portal in recent memory with Justin Fields leading them to the College Football Playoff and Big Ten titles in back-to-back years.
Who will be the Buckeyes’ quarterback in 2024?
