The Baltimore Ravens need help with their pass rush. According to one ESPN writer, former New England Patriots edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson could provide the answers. Matt Bowen, a former NFL safety, now an analyst, describes what he believes could be Chaisson’s effect in Baltimore:
“Best team fit: Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens had only 30 sacks in 2025, the third fewest in the league, and defenders Kyle Van Noy and Dre’Mont Jones are free agents. Chaisson, who had a career-high 7.5 sacks with the Patriots last season, would fill a void off the edge as an explosive rusher, and he can drop as a coverage defender in coach Jesse Minter’s scheme.”
With just 30 sacks in 2025, the Ravens need all the help they can get. The front office, led by Eric DeCosta, understands a myriad of aspects. In regard to Minter’s defense and what made the organization traditional, Moreover, two qualities of a sound defense bubble rise to the surface. First, they need an outstanding middle linebacker with the awareness, vision, and talent to control the defense.
Roquan Smith checks that box. Next, they must employ explosive edge rushers to scream off the edge to make plays.
Originally drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the former LSU product struggled to find his footing. Playing a season with the Las Vegas Raiders seemed to help. Chaisson notched five sacks and started to show the talent that made him a first-round pick in the first place.
As a member of the Patriots, especially in the postseason, the edge rusher broke through with three sacks and four tackles. The Ravens would need to determine whether Chiasson’s projected salary fits their plans. According to Spotrac, Chaisson’s projected annual salary should be $8,962,991.

Chaisson’s Arrival Could Soften Expected Edge Losses
The Ravens, as of now, could lose both Kyle Van Noy and Dre’Mont Jones. From a talent, upside, and plug-and-play fit, neither appears to fit Minter’s scheme. Jones weighs in the neighborhood of 281 pounds, and Van Noy is best when getting downhill. Furthermore, he turns 35 on March 26.
In Minter’s scheme, flexible edges who can not only rush the passer but also hold up against the run and occasionally drop into coverage are the types of athletes he prefers. Chaisson checks those boxes for Baltimore. Providing a bendy, angular frame, he can drive under the block attempts with his shoulders and hands while his feet make up the ground between himself and the tackle.
Against the run, the six-year veteran shows a willingness to take on and defeat blockers with a mix of quickness and surprising power. Granted, his coverage experience (31 career targets, 23 completions) isn’t profound, but that would be last on Minter’s list of prerequisites.

Madubuike’s Unknown Health Could Precipitate Signing
While Nnamdi Madubuike and Chaisson play different positions, the former’s health status directly affects the latter. Madubuike missed all but two games last season. Mant labeled his neck injury as career-threatening. If he can return healthy, adding an athletic edge rusher like Chaisson could see him return to his Pro Bowl form.
7.5 sacks may not seem like the type of number worthy of an eight-figure contract. However, when your skill set aligns with what a team needs, the Ravens can make the money work. What remains to be seen is whether they will pull the trigger.
