Top-10 junior Caleb Gaskins updates recruitment after Jordan Holiday Classic

December 30, 2024 by Zags Blog

By CHARLIE PARENT

NEW YORK — Caleb Gaskins, a five-star in the class of 2026, dominated at the Jordan Holiday Classic, averaging 15 points and 4 rebounds across three games for Christopher Columbus High School (FL.).

He posted his tournament 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting Saturday night in a loss to Long Island Lutheran.

The 6-foot-8 physical forward is thriving in his first year at Columbus, teaming up with five-star Duke commit Cam Boozer, his twin brother and Duke commit Cayden Boozer and 2026 five-star Jaxson Richardson.

He transferred from coveted Montverde Academy with an aim to get more touches, and showcase his true potential.

“It [the transition] has gone really good, it’s been a really good experience. It’s been a great move for me, and this school was just the best fit for me.”

He’s been rewarded on the recruiting front for his stellar play, with Alabama, Villanova, Auburn, LSU and Georgia looking to get Gaskins on campus in the future.

He has not taken any visits, and has none set right now, but will look to do so in the spring following Columbus’ season.

On top of the aforementioned programs, Duke, South Carolina, Baylor and Michigan have all been to Gaskins’ high school to watch his games. Kansas is in the mix, as well.

He aims to start narrowing options down in the summer, following those spring visits.

“[I’m looking] for a school that welcomes me and a school that feels like home,” he said. “A school that has a good coaching staff and good environment.”

Gaskins broke down three of his options:

Duke: “Everybody knows it’s a really nice program. They produce pros, so I think it’s a really good school.”

Auburn: “Auburn is really good, they’re really physical. I like how they love to defend and get stops, and they’re doing really well right now.”

Alabama: “Alabama is really good too. Just their style on offense, and the way they score the basketball, it’s a really free-flowing offense.”

In terms of skillset, he is versatile forward who can work on the inside or out. Gaskins feels he has the ability to impact the game in many different ways, and his usage revolves around the flow of the contest.

“I feel like I would want to be in a five-out offense,” he said. “I could really thrive in a driving offense and just guard too.”

“It [usage] depends on how the game is going,” he concluded “Today [Friday] I was more on the inside, and posting up. There could be other days where I’m outside and hitting three, so I think it’s just based on how the game is going.”
