We’re almost halfway through the 2023 college baseball season and the contenders continue to separate themselves from the pretenders. But two in particular stand out from the crowd.

On Monday, the new D1 Baseball top 25 poll was released. As we’ve pretty much come to expect, the Southeastern Conference was very well represented – particularly in the top six.

Five of the top six teams in the new poll are from the SEC, headlined by LSU followed by Wake Forest of the ACC. Then the SEC goes on a real run with four straight reps – Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and South Carolina.

In total, the SEC accounts for more than a quarter of the top 25 teams with Kentucky and Tennessee taking No. 12 and No. 16 respectively.

Here are the top 10 teams in the new poll, via D1Baseball.com:

  1. LSU
  2. Wake Forest
  3. Florida
  4. Vanderbilt
  5. Arkansas
  6. South Carolina
  7. Virginia
  8. Stanford
  9. East Carolina
  10. Louisville

The Tigers have dominated college baseball from the get go, receiving at least 23 first place votes every week since the season began. But the Demon Deacons have been on their tails, starting the season 13-0 and earning first place votes in six straight polls.

Wake Forest is the only other team in college baseball to receive first place votes six times this season.

Are LSU and Wake Forest on a collision course?
