Sure, let’s see what this does.
ACC men’s basketball: how do we fix it? Do we shake it? Give it a new color scheme? Add racing stripes? These are the burning questions that continue to vex the league’s administrators after yet another abysmal season.
Nothing short of better coaching hires and more substantive NIL investment across the board will get the league back to where it once stood, but in the meantime, perhaps we can do a little jiggling and see what that does. According to a report from CBS Sports, ACC administrators expect a proposal to decrease the league schedule from 20 games to 18 will pass when presented next month. That change would be implemented next season.
The league initially went from 18 to 20 games to help give the new ACC Network more inventory to work with. Dropping back to 18 games theoretically provides added scheduling flexibility that will allow teams to bolster their strength of schedule. Some will take advantage, while others will simply add another useless buy game because they need a few extra hundred bucks in ticket revenue to cover skyrocketing hockey equipment costs. (I’m looking at you, Boston College!)
There was a time when altering the number of games in the league schedule might generate a reaction, but given the unrecognizable monstrosity that’s been foisted upon us, those days are long gone. There ain’t a whole lot of tradition left to cut.
We’ve already reached a point where NC State plays a rando like Cal twice but not Duke; I mean, who even cares anymore. Do whatever you want, Jim Phillips. Play 10 games. Try 14. Let Red Panda make the schedule. This league is stupid and dead and I hate it and what’s the difference.
