Auburn, Ala. (WNCN) — North Carolina State baseball begins its quest to get to the College World Series on Friday afternoon in Alabama.
The Wolfpack (33-19) will face the Stetson Hatters (40-20) to get the 2025 Auburn Regional started. First pitch at Plainsman Park is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET but may be delayed due to weather. Dominic Fitton is slated to start on the mound for NC State, while Jonathan Gonzalez is projected to start for the Hatters.
NC State earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament last week and earned a double-bye, but they lost to eventual runner-up Clemson in the quarterfinal round in the only game they ended up playing in the event. Stetson made it all the way to the final of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, where they lost 6-5 to Florida Gulf Coast.
This is the fourth time the two programs will meet in the NCAA DI regional round, with the most recent coming in the 2011 Columbia Regional when the teams faced off twice. Overall, the all-time series between the two schools is even at 3-3.
Both teams will continue play Saturday in the double-elimination event. The winner of Friday afternoon’s game will matchup against the winner of Friday night’s game between host Auburn and Central Connecticut State on Saturday night. The losers of both games will face off Saturday afternoon.
