A 17-11 team without a single 1st Team selection seems odd, but you do you, ACC
The ACC announced their 2025 baseball awards on Monday, and five NC State players received honors:
- SO 1B Chris McHugh – 2nd Team
- JR LHP Dom Fritton – 3rd Team
- SO LHP Ryan Marohn – 3rd Team
- FR CF Ty Head – Freshman
- FR RHP Anderson Nance – Freshman
All 16 ACC head coaches vote to determine the honors. Regular season champ Georgia Tech led the way with 8 selections, FSU and UNC had 7 each, Virginia 6, while NC State’s 5 representatives tied with Louisville.
McHugh hit .377/.474/.560, 11 2B, 7 HR, 10.0 BB%, 16.1 K%, 1-3 SB in his first year with the Wolfpack after transferring in from VCU. Those numbers would have been even more impressive if not for missing some time due to a pair of HBP on his hand.
Fritton bounced back nicely from a down 2024 campaign to post a line of 5-4, 3.91 ERA, 78.1 IP, 9.9 BB%, 27.8 K%. The 2023 Freshman All-American certainly boosted his draft stock in ascending to the role of staff ace for the Pack, finishing 2nd in the ACC in both innings pitched and strikeouts.
Marohn built on a solid freshman campaign last year to post a line of 7-3, 3.72 ERA, 77.1 IP, 5.9 BB%, 25.1 K%. The southpaw finished 5th in the conference in innings pitched and 6th in strikeouts, while tying for the conference lead in complete games with two.
Head was a freshman sensation, both at the dish and even more so in the field, certainly with a case to be made for ACC Freshman-of-the-Year honors. He showed an advanced approach at the plate in hitting .274/.450/.414, 10 2B, 4 HR, 21.8 BB%, 11.8 K%, 5-5 SB, while making one highlight reel play after another in centerfield.
Nance also had a case for earning ACC Freshman-of-the-Year honors, settling in as arguably the Pack’s most valuable reliever. For the year he posted a line of 8-1, 1 SV, 2.94 ERA, 49.0 IP, 4.5 BB%, 24.1 K%. With his repertoire, he’ll slot in as a starter in 2026 for the Pack.
NC State is set to begin play in the ACC Tournament this Thursday evening at 7:00pm. They’ll take on the winner/survivor of Stanford, Virginia Tech, and Clemson.
