PITTSBURGH, P.A. (WNCN) — Tonight’s second round game between NC State and Oakland means a double-digit seed is guaranteed to advance to the Sweet 16.
The No. 11 Wolfpack (23-14) and No. 14 Golden Grizzlies (24-11) face off in a South regional matchup at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Tip off is scheduled to be at 7:10 p.m.
NC State has gotten hot at the right time, winning six games in a row to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and then advance out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Though DJ Burns and DJ Horne have starred throughout this run, it was Ben Middlebrooks who stepped up and scored a career-high 21 points in their win over Texas Tech on Thursday. Mohamed Diarra also notched his own career high with 17 points.
Oakland, meanwhile, became this tournament’s Cinderella when they stunned the Kentucky Wildcats Thursday. Golden Grizzlies guard Jack Gohlke became a breakout star after he made 10 three-pointers on his way to 32 points.
The two programs have never faced each other before. Here’s how to watch the first ever game between NC State and Oakland University.
