RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Leaders behind the ongoing renovation project at the Lenovo Center are slated to provide an update on the construction process outside the Raleigh venue on Wednesday afternoon.
Centennial Authority Chairman Philip Isley, North Carolina State Athletic Director Boo Corrigan and Hurricanes Holding Chief Executive Officer Brian Fork are scheduled to hold a news conference at 3 p.m.
Work is already underway at the Lenovo Center, which is currently in phase one of a three-pronged plan to renovate the 25-year-old arena.
While parts of the venue will look different by the time the Carolina Hurricanes open the 2025-26 season, the area surrounding the Lenovo Center will also look drastically different in the future.
In April, the Raleigh City Council approved plans for a $1 billion entertainment district around the home of the Hurricanes and N.C. State men’s basketball program.
“This is going to be the focal point, I think of the state.” Doug Warf, president of the Carolina Hurricanes and Lenovo Center, told CBS 17 on May 9. “I think it’s easily going to be the focal point of the Triangle, which I think we’re the center point of the state. So what I get excited about is this district will be this beautiful focal point in the state of North Carolina, coming from the mountains to the coast.”
“You’re seeing Raleigh become a must play market,” he added.
Work on the entertainment district is expected to take around 15 years.
