Auburn, Ala. (WNCN) — NC State baseball mounted an epic comeback against Stetson in an elimination game Sunday afternoon and now has to turn around and face the host team of the 2025 Auburn Regional.
The Wolfpack (35-20) and Auburn Tigers (40-18), the fourth-ranked team in the nation, will face off Sunday night at Plainsman Park. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
After losing to Stetson Friday to open the regional, NC State has staved off elimination twice to earn a date with the Tigers. The Wolfpack shut out Central Connecticut State 12-0 Saturday and then came from behind Sunday afternoon to overcome Stetson, 17-12. That game ended just a little over an hour before first pitch in the nightcap.
Auburn has yet to lose a game in the double-elimination event. The Tigers topped Central Connecticut State by a score of 9-5 Friday night, then defeated Stetson 8-5 Saturday night.
If NC State wins Sunday night, it will force another matchup between the two teams on Monday. If the Tigers win, they claim the 2025 Auburn Regional title.
