WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WNCN) — Two 2-0 teams from North Carolina are set to clash in a Thursday night matchup in Winston-Salem.
NC State (2-0) travels from the Triangle to the Triad to face off against Wake Forest (2-0). Kickoff at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Wolfpack is operating on a short week after hosting Virginia in Raleigh on Saturday. An interception by Cian Slone sealed a 35-31 victory for NC State. Quarterback CJ Bailey rushed for two touchdowns in addition to throwing for one, finishing the game with 200 yards on 16 of 22 passes. Running back Hollywood Smothers also ran for a pair of scores and a total of 136 yards in the comeback victory.
In Wake Forest’s previous game, the Demon Deacons defeated Western Carolina at home by a score of 42-10. Starting quarterback Robby Ashford threw for 227 yards on 13 of 22 passes with one touchdown and one interception. Much of that yardage went to Chris Barnes, who had 149 yards on six receptions. On the ground, Demond Claiborne scored three touchdowns, running for a total of 193 yards.
NC State has next week off before making the even shorter trip to Durham. They face Duke in a Triangle rivalry game on Sept. 20.
