Getting to know the kind of staff Coach Wade has assembled
Several members of the coaching staff met with the media recently. The interviews give us a peek at the inner workings of Coach Wade’s staff.
Coach Wade and Coach Howard knew each other for many years, having met when both were assistant coaches. This is their first opportunity to work together.
Howard comes to the Pack after spending the last three seasons at Nebraska under Coach Fred Hoiberg.
Howard was selected to participate in the 2023 and 2024 TopConnect Basketball Symposiums, an annual event featuring some of the nation’s top assistant coaches.
Howard played at Western Kentucky from 2004-08 and played on three teams that advanced to postseason play including making the Sweet 16 in the 2008 NCAA Tournament
Highlights:
- Only coach that did not come from McNeese
- Coach Howard will coach the offense. He’ll bring some of Coach Hoiberg’s offensive principles that worked well at Nebraska and the NBA – Nebraska led the Big 10 in 3PT shots made last season.
- Darrion Williams – A special player, he just makes the right plays
- The rest of the players on the team were all excited when Williams was signed
- Terrance Arceneaux – He’s as good an athlete as you will find in the league
- “They’re all coming from programs where there’s great culture and great work ethic,” Howard said. “We got Terrance Arceneaux from Houston that played for a national championship, Darrion Williams’ team made the Elite Eight, Tre Holloman won a Big Ten regular season championship. … I’ve been pleased with their work ethics. They come in with a workman’s attitude. We’re excited about this group.”
