Getting to know the kind of staff Coach Wade has assembled
Several members of the coaching staff met with the media recently. The interviews give us a peek at the inner workings of Coach Wade’s staff.
Patrick Stacy joins the Pack after serving as the general manager for the Wyoming men’s basketball program last season. With the Cowboys, Stacy focused on analytics in both scouting and recruiting.
- While Wyoming’s GM he recruited Scottie Ebube to transfer to the Cowboys from SIU. In the last few weeks, he was (again) the primary recruiter in Ebube transferring to the Wolfpack.
- Stacy is the founder of Jam Basketball Intelligence, a company that constructs pre-game scouting reporters identifying strengths, weaknesses and tendencies of opponents in college basketball.
- FUN FACT: He is a graduate of Loyola-Chicago graduating in 2017 and was the analytics manager on the Ramblers’ historic 2018 Final Four team. He knows Sister Jean!
Highlights:
- Tre Holloman’s statistics from Michigan State are almost identical to Chucky Hepburn’s last season at Wisconsin. (Hepburn transferred to Louisville and was the ACC DPOY and 1st team ALL ACC last season)
- Transferring from the Big 10 tends to lead to ACC success
- Coach Wade values certain positions, the point guard, the 2 guard and the 4.
- The roster is built from the type of players Coach Wade is most comfortable with
- Paul McNeil was NC State’s best returning player. When he was on the floor, he was their best player from a rate standpoint.
- Darrion Williams accentuates every player on the floor. He made every single player on that floor better. We think we can extract a little bit more out of him from a scoring standpoint.
- Quadir Copeland – Q has a bit of an outlier skillset himself, there have been nine players his height to score, rebound and assist the way he does in the last 15 years. And all of those guys are in the NBA. The only thing he is missing is he’s got to shoot the 3PT above 30.
- Last season Ven-Allen Lubin had the third highest single season FG% in ACC history. He’s another one, when he was on the floor he made everyone so much better. Carolina was 12 points better when he was on the floor. He’s a perfect fit for the type offense Coach Howard is going to run.
- We give every player 3 things we want them to improve on in preparation for the season and tell them what them hitting those benchmarks will mean for our team
- We like players that make their teammates better when on the floor
