The Pack9 live to fight another day
Behind an excellent outing from Ryan Marohn, NC State cruised to a 12-0 win over Central Connecticut State at the 2025 Auburn Regional. The win sets up a rematch of the Wolfpack’s opening game in the regional, with State set to take on Stetson in an elimination game on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm.
Before Marohn even took the mound, Alex Sosa staked State to an early lead with a massive shot to center field to drive in himself and Josh Hogue, who had walked with one out in the frame.

While nobody knew it at the time, that was all the offense State would need on the day – but not the last it would generate – as Marohn faced just two batters over the minimum through his first seven innings. When he did run into trouble in the 8th, thanks to a pair of leadoff hits to put runners on the corners, the Pack lefty struck out the next three batters he faced to escape with a zero still on the scoreboard.
In arguably the strongest performance of his career, Marohn was masterful: 8.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 HBP, and 10 K on 115 pitches. His command of the strike zone was excellent all afternoon, helping the Pack advance in Regional play. Almost as importantly, he saved the bullpen ahead of what could be three games over the next two days.
A masterclass from Marohn.

Tristan Potts worked around a hit and a walk to finish things off with a scoreless 9th inning.
The Pack put up four runs in the 4th inning, highlighted by Ryder Woodson’s first career home run, a massive shot.

State added another run in the 5th, two more in the 8th, and the final three in the 9th. Those three 9th inning runs came off the bat of Luke Nixon.

Hogue (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, 1-1 SB), Sosa (2-for-3, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB), and Woodson (2-for-5, 2B, HR, R, 3 RBI) each tallied multiple hits on the day. Justin DeCriscio (1-for-3, 2 R, BB, HBP) also reached base safely multiple times.
Stetson lost to Auburn last night, 8-5. After falling behind 4-0 early, the Hatters closed it to a 4-3 game in the 4th inning, but were unable to close the gap as the Tigers kept distance the rest of the way. Isaiah Barkett had a 2-for-5 day, Lorenzo Meola went 3-for-5, and Jordan Taylor was 2-for-4. Stetson also used up two of their prominent bullpen arms in the outing, including stud reliever Ty Van Dyke (4.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K).
