Friday was a good day for Pack crootin’.
NC State made its first key portal addition on Friday night with the commitment of former Wake Forest wide receiver Wesley Grimes. Grimes was a major target for State’s staff out of high school, and State has an obvious need at receiver, so it’s not surprising that this moved quickly.

Grimes, or “Grimey,” as he prefers to be called***, also played at Millbrook, where he developed into a four-star prospect. He was a top-350 player in the 2023 class and became an immediate contributor at Wake, finishing the 2023 season with 20 receptions for 339 yards and four touchdowns.
(***likely untrue)
He has three years of eligibility remaining, so it’s possible he’ll one day ne catching passes from NC State quarterback commit Cedrick Bailey. Bailey has been committed to NC State since June, but Miami has been coming on strong after jumping in with a late offer, which prompted State’s staff to make the trip to Florida for Bailey’s high school title game.
Bailey posted on Twitter Friday that he’s “locked in” with the Wolfpack.
