The Wolfpack have at least one more game on the season
NC State hit back-to-back home runs in the 8th inning against Stetson in the 2025 Auburn Regional, and we’ll pretend like the rest of the game didn’t happen.
Unfortunately, it did, and it was not great for the Wolfpack. Stetson scored 7 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 1st inning and that was basically the entire ballgame. An 11-2 loss sends State to the losers bracket. If you want to look at the box score, be my guest.
The Pack will now take on Central Connecticut State on Saturday at 3:00pm in an attempt to stave off elimination for one more day. The Blue Devils lost to Regional host Auburn, 9-5, in their opener. CCSU was at least competitive in that one; the game was tied 4-4 heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning.
CCSU JR RHP Vincent Borghese (10-2, 4.22 ERA, 85.1 IP, 6.2 BB%, 23.9 K%) awaits the Wolfpack. The transfer from D2 Post University struggled down the stretch, but still pitched well enough to earn 1st Team All-NEC honors. Fellow 1st Team All-NEC pick SR RHP Wyatt Cameron (3-2, 5 SV, 1.93 ERA, 37.1 IP, 12.8 BB%, 28.8 K%) did not pitch in the game against Auburn, so he should be ready to go in the elimination game against the Pack.
A Blue Devils lineup that hit a combined .331/.437/.503, 120 2B, 36 HR, 13.7 BB%, 12.8 K%, 67-73 SB on the year is led by NEC Player-of-the-Year SR 2B Aidan Redahan (.458/.513/.708, 17 2B, 9 HR, 10.7 BB%, 4.9 K%, 10-11 SB). The lefty hitter extended his current hitting streak to 10 games in the loss to Auburn. His 2-hit effort against the Tigers also marked the 8th consecutive game he’s tallied multiple hits.
The NEC champs pounded out 14 hits against Auburn in their Regional opener while working 4 walks against 9 strikeouts. Seniors SS Brady Short (.329/.483/.439, 16 2B, 1 HR, 20.5 BB%, 10.3 K%, 8-9 SB), DH Colby Brouillette (.351/.448/.500, 5 2B, 2 HR, 13.8 BB%, 10.3 K%, 2-2 SB), RF Gianno Merlonghi (.291/.350/.441, 10 2B, 3 HR, 8.8 BB%, 8.3 K%, 4-4 SB), and CF Kyle Gordon (.377/.495/.584, 8 2B, 2 HR, 11.9 BB%, 7.9 K%, 8-8 SB) joined Redahan with multiple hits in that game. One other batter to note is 1st Team All-NEC pick SR 3B Chris Brown (.335/.481/.506, 17 2B, 3 HR, 16.2 BB%, 18.5 K%, 8-9 SB). Yeah, this is an experienced group.
