After winning the series opener, State pressed for the entirety of the last two games and couldn’t get it done
With an ACC title fully in their own hands, NC State went on a home-run-seeking spree over Friday and Saturday in Raleigh against Stanford, with the result being a predictable two straight losses. As such, the Wolfpack will have to wait at least another year to try to break the baseball title dry spell that the program has been mired in since 1986.
Even with Friday’s loss, State still had a chance to take home the title if they could top Stanford on Saturday and if Florida State could beat North Carolina. The Wolfpack apparently had no plans on trying to take care of their part of the equation, continually swinging for the fences and continually coming up short in yet another infuriating loss.
This pull-happy, home-run-centric approach will see NC State sent home quickly from the ACC Tournament this coming week, and will then see the Wolfpack on the road for an NCAA Regional, which will also end quickly without a change in approach. Can they change? Yes. Will they? We’ll see.
There’s nothing to discuss on this. Like many a fan of this program, I’ve waited my entire life to see NC State capture a baseball title. What’s another year? What’s another lifetime?
