RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The North Carolina State football team plans to represent the city of Raleigh with pride through its new uniforms, which players will wear in their season opener as the Wolfpack play host to East Carolina in less than two weeks.
The university revealed brand-new, fresh-looking uniforms on social media on Friday. The red jersey features “NC State” written in script lettering with an acorn at the end, signifying a nod to Raleigh’s nickname as the “City of Oaks.”
It incorporates white numbers on the uniforms, along with red pants and a white helmet that sports “NC State” in red script, while also displaying stripes on the shoulders and the side of the pants. White gloves and cleats with red accents round out the signature design.
The font on the helmet and front of the jersey is a reference to an old neon sign that previously welcomed visitors to downtown Raleigh, the university said.
There’s no word yet on whether these Raleigh-inspired uniforms will be solely a one-time appearance, or if the football program aims to repurpose them for future games.
The Wolfpack open regular-season play against their in-state rivals at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on Aug. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
N.C. State fell to the Pirates in their previous matchup at the end of the 2024 season, losing 26-21 in the Military Bowl last December.
