The South Jersey native posted a 32.1 K% over 24.2 IP for the Gamecocks in 2025
The transfer portal, as it does this early in the process, has taken it’s toll on the NC State baseball program in the form of 13 players heading out of the program, but the Wolfpack finally got a transfer heading the other way with the announcement that Ryder Garino will be joining the Pack9 for 2026.

Hailing from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, just east of Philadelphia, the 6’5, 195 lbs right-handed pitcher put up a line of 2-0, 5.84 ERA, 24.2 IP, 12.3 BB%, 32.1 K% for the Gamecocks as a freshman in 2025. He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining, although that doesn’t really mean anything in this day and age of college athletics, and even less in college baseball where the vast majority of high level players head to the pro ranks before their senior seasons.
Garino pitched in seven games against SEC or ACC schools, with walks being a major issue. In those games, Garino was 0-0, 11.17 ERA, 9.2 IP, 16.3 BB%, 28.6 K%. The strikeout numbers certainly indicate the quality of the stuff.
Mainly working out of a fastball-slider combo, although with an occasional changeup mixed in, Garino projects to remain a relief arm for the Wolfpack. The righty sits 89-91 mph with his fastball, topping out at 92, although his lanky frame certainly suggests an ability to drive that velo up with added muscle. Added velo could also allow Garino’s 78-81 mph slider – his best pitch – to play up and add more bite. The changeup sits at 80 mph, although it doesn’t appear to be a pitch he trusted much at South Carolina.
As a prep pitcher in South Jersey, Garino was the New Jersey Pitcher-of-the-Year as a senior in 2024 after tossing 53.0 IP (including 9 complete games) of 0.39 ERA ball and striking out 94 batters while allowing just 27 hits.
