RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — NC State men’s basketball and new head coach Will Wade will be hosting a big game in December, according to a report.
On Wednesday, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports said the Wolfpack will host Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks on Dec. 13 in Raleigh. The game would be the second half of a home-and-home series that began this past season when NC State played in Lawrence last December.
The then-No. 10 Jayhawks won that meeting at Allen Fieldhouse by a score of 75-60, with guard Zeke Mayo and Hunter Dickinson scoring 26 points and 21 points, respectively, for Kansas.
But neither of those players, who will be graduating this spring, will be with the team that makes the trip to Raleigh in December. The NC State lineup will also look different as several players have either graduated or entered the transfer portal, including Ben Middlebrooks, who was the leading scorer with 14 points against the Jayhawks in their last meeting.
Though this will be the fourth time the two teams have faced off since 2012, it will be the first time the Jayhawks will be playing in Raleigh in more than 30 years. According NC State’s athletics website, the last time the Wolfpack hosted Kansas was on Dec. 10, 1994.
The Jayhawks’ game at NC State will mark their second trip to the Triangle in a month. Kansas is scheduled to play at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill for the first time ever on Nov. 14 in a game that will also be the return game of a home-and-home series with UNC. The Tar Heels played at Allen Fieldhouse last November, losing 92-89.
