Saniya Rivers and Aziaha James didn’t have to wait too long to hear their names called on Monday night, as both were taken in the first round of the WNBA Draft. Rivers went first, at No. 8 overall to the Connecticut Sun. (Not sure I’m gonna be able to root for a team in Connecticut, but I’m really happy for her.)
James went at No. 12 to the Dallas Wings. While the Sun were good last season, the Wings were, uh, well they need Aziaha’s help, that’s for sure. The Wings also selected Paige Bueckers first overall, which doesn’t hurt either.

This is the first time NC State has ever had two players taken in the first round of the draft, men’s or women’s. Makes sense that these two would make one last bit of history on their way out the door.
