Bruce Feldman’s annual rundown of some of the biggest athletic freaks in college football usually includes at least one NC State player, and this year is no different: Jacarrius Peak, Duke Scott, and Sean Brown (plus Julian Gray, who is at Liberty now) made the cut this year.
On Duke Scott:
A redshirt freshman, the 5-11 1/4, 214-pound Scott is already one of the strongest running backs in college football. He power cleaned 375 pounds this offseason and squatted 550. “He will clean over 405 next year, guaranteed,” NC State strength coach Dantonio Burnette said. Remember Scott’s name: I predict he makes a big splash in the ACC this year. Scott, who was one of the top high school sprinters in Georgia, vertical jumped 37.5 inches, ran a 4.35 40 and clocked a 4.23 shuttle time.
It seems like there’s more offseason buzz surrounding Scott than anyone else on the roster, and those numbers make it easy to see why. A 4.35 forty, you say? Guess I’d better hop on this bandwagon.
Scott appeared in only one game last season (he had three carries against Stanford) but will have plenty of opportunities to make a difference this fall now that Jordan Waters and Kendrick Raphael are gone. If he’s up to the task, and given NC State’s tendency to split carries, a breakout is a good bet.
